North Enfield Cricket Club II vs Mill Hill Village I (H) - Saturday 07th June 2025

North Enfield Cricket Club’s 1st XI saw their match against Mill Hill Village abandoned at Strayfield Road on Saturday to end their two game winning streak.

After a couple of false alarms, the rain set in for good with Mill Hill on 42 - 2 after 11 overs, chasing a revised target of 210 from 42 overs.

With the visitors scoring at below the required rate of five runs per over and Oliver Munt claiming North Enfield’s first wicket with a beautiful delivery to the delight of the home crowd, the hosts were in the driving seat.

Both sides were ultimately forced to settle for 10 points in the end, as the captains shook hands in the clubhouse.

The result meant that Mill Hill remained in first, whilst North Enfield are seated fourth in Division 4B of the Hertfordshire Premier Cricket League.

An outstanding 139 run partnership between captain Ishan Tilakaratna (64) and vice-captain Kieran Jones (106*) had earlier seen North Enfield recover to post a competitive 230 - 7 from their 50 overs.

Tilakaratna arrived at the crease with the score on 66 - 4 and his side in a spot of bother, with both players initially biding their time.

As the partnership progressed and Jones reached his half century, Tilakaratna started to go through the gears and swiftly moved along to a second consecutive half century of his own.

By the time his run a ball 64 was ended, the hosts were in a much stronger position at 205 - 5 and had a platform to build upon.

Jones gave them the flourish they needed to end their innings, brining up a second league hundred of the season in typical, unflustered style.

Despite the match eventually being abandoned, North Enfield still put in another solid performance and increased their unbeaten run to three matches.

Elsewhere, the club’s 2nd XI lost to Ware by seven wickets in Division 9 East, whilst the Friendly XI lost by the same margin to Highgate Taverners, despite a fine 67 from Chris Gillman.

Kieran Jones walks off after making 106* in North Enfield's rain-affected draw with Mill Hill Village at Strayfield Road.
